According to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, 135 cases of crimes committed by Russian troops against the cultural heritage of Ukraine were recorded. Among them, are the destruction of the local history museum in the Kyiv region and the drama theatre in Mariupol, damage to the Holocaust memorial in Kharkiv.
UNESCO has already received confirmation of damage to 53 historical sites in Ukraine. Including 29 religious sites, 16 historical buildings, 4 museums and 4 monuments. Of these objects, more than 10 are located in the Kharkiv region, 5 – in Kyiv, and 5 – in the Chernihiv region.
The list does not include information from the besieged city of Mariupol or the city of Kherson, seized by Russia. The list will be supplemented as UNESCO receives documentary evidence of Russian crimes against the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
