Smog in Kyiv from fires caused by Russian shelling

19.03.2022

Kyiv

Russian aggression is causing irreparable damage to Ukraine's ecology and human health. On the morning of March 19, there was an unbearable smell of burning in Kyiv. The situation was challenging in the southwestern districts of the capital. The reason is a fire at a landfill in Novi Petrivtsi village that arose due to Russian shelling on March 18 and numerous fires in the western suburbs of Kyiv, where fighting is taking place.

According to the IQAir service, the air in Kyiv is dangerous for people's health. PM2.5 (particulate matter) is 20.5 times the annual World Organization of Health air quality guideline value.
