Energodar, Zaporizhzhia region
On August 6, in the evening, Russian troops once again fired rockets at the site of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the city of Energodar. They hit the ZNPP site directly next to the station's dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel (SNF). Obviously, they were aiming precisely at the SNF containers, which are stored in the open air near the shelling sites. 174 containers, each containing 24 spent nuclear fuel assemblies. The rocket attacks also damaged three radiation monitoring sensors around the Zaporizhzhia NPP storage facility site. Therefore, timely detection and response in the event of a deterioration in the radiation situation or leakage of radiation from containers of spent nuclear fuel is impossible.
